Winter Trademark

There’s always a happy compromise with every “legally difficult” idea. Copyrights are a steady battle in my toils, especially with the pop culture tee designs.  Print a design with trademarked themes and you’re bound to get a cease and desist letter.  This pirate tee was originally set on a scrabble board, but due to the use of Scrabble®, it’d never fly.  After a little brainstormage I found the goal of the joke could still work in a similar word game, making the Pirate Crossword.  In these instances I appreciate copyrights, they challenge me to push an idea, making it better.

I’ve been a snorg design machine these past few days, turning out a personal record number of proofs and revisions in this month alone.

The snow has been merciless this winter, which is great, giving me time to work from home, and make a record number of snow gargoyles around my apartment. Although I dislike snowstorms, I love snow days.   Snowboarding and sledding, catching up on movies, and removing the stress of the winter months.  Making time this weekend to begin a redesign on my website.  I usually change things up every year, keeping it fresh to whatever style I’m working in.  I usually start with a sketch, then build the functionality, and then fill in the portfolio pieces.

I’ve sent a bushel of proposals this month, and fingers crossed they’ll produce some pretty fun jobs.  My other freelance work has also been cool lately, nothing too strict to standards.  Worked a lot with Fête Music on their logo and artist prints, finished a couple print works for bands in the UK, and worked on a new necktie for Narragansett Beer (using their logo, rope created stripes, and a RI symbolic anchor with a bottle cap opener).
