Steps Ad Up
Although the majority of my snorg work is designed for printing and worn proudly until the inevitable mustard stain, I also do a fair amount of ad work. New features, contests, sales, etc. Here’s the process of the making of one, using this month’s contest ad:
1. the snorg marketing director will send me a bundle of photos to use, from them I’ll pick the one that best suits the ad’s theme.

2. a little toying with size and placement

3. color correcting the photo, and creating a filler area using the actual background

4. tweaking the background to appear less “pasted in”

5. laying out the title’s type, using the standard snorgtees font for continuity in the site’s design, and typography to reflect the theme

6. using the pen tool to create another layer using the photo, making it appear to interact with the type, a touch I like adding to most in order to pull it all together

7. add a dark shadow to the type making it “pop”

8. using shapes to draw attention to the ad’s other info, matching colors to compliment the photo, and varying the type/background color

9. creating lines mimicking seams or blueprints, using the dash of the snorg font

10. rasterizing the dashes, rendering them to the photo, and then strategically placing them to guide the eye while also making the model more dynamic

Once it’s proofed and tested in the site’s space, the ad is ready for clicking
